Deepawali or Diwali, a five-day festival also known as the Festival of Lights, is the most important holyday of the year in Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism and is usually celebrated by families in their homes by performing traditional activities together. It is widely celebrated in many countries, especially in India and Nepal, signifying the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. On Jacobs Campus it has become an annual tradition and is one of the major cultural events organized by students for the whole university community: The event is open to host families, undergraduates, graduates, administration, staff and anyone who wishes to experience and enjoy this cultural festival.
Afternoon workshops include henna painting, learning how to tie a saree, Dandiya dance lessons, wick making, Devanagri script display, playing Indian-Nepalese indoor games, accompanied by music and traditional snacks.
The cultural evening program will give an insight into why and how Deepawali is celebrated through entertaining performances. Professionally cooked dinner and the fireworks will give everyone a taste of the festivity back home.
A BOLLYWOOD style party at The OtherSide will conclude the festivities.
